My first blog since cancer 2.0, and what can I say… it’s been an emotional 4 months since my secondary breast cancer diagnosis.
Firstly I would like to thank everyone for their support of our new charity Gray to Sunny Day, for all the likes, shares, follows and donations. It means so much to myself, Nicole and Jess.
Secondly I’d like to thank everyone for your kind messages, help, meals and all the other bits and bobs I’ve been given (too many to list).
Cancer sucks. Especially stage 4 cancer, and since my diagnosis believe it or not, I’ve had more happy days than I have sad. Don’t get me wrong, I have cried, a lot, BUT I have laughed so much more. I’m learning to take in the little moments, creating memories for my family and getting used to my new ‘normal’ life. We’ve been to Ireland, Germany and are going away at the end of this month. Not bad considering I haven’t been away on a plane in years!
My first line of treatment (an oral targeted therapy drug) unfortunately did not work, the cancer was stable everywhere apart from my liver where it actually grew, so I am now on weekly chemotherapy (bald head pending). I’ve done 2 weeks of chemo already and have 7 more to go until I have a scan, if my chemo is working I will have 9 more weeks, so that’s 18 rounds of chemo!
Week 1 of chemo was fine, Jonny was my chemo buddy. Week 2 of chemo was fine-ish. The first cannula they put in didn’t work and my vein blew, so they had to re do it, Jess was my chemo buddy. I was so sick that night, I barely managed to get to the toilet. I’ve never actually been sick from chemo before so this was a first.
I now have a port-a-cath in my chest, which will make the whole process so much easier! No more bad veins ☺️
Have a fab week everyone and thanks for reading my first blog. Love Darina x
